The Dairy Products Merchant/Trader is responsible for product origination, marketing, and execution within an assigned product category. The key objective of this position is to learn to create growth in the assigned marketplace, develop risk management skills, and reach and exceed profitability goals. This is achieved through customer contact, providing excellent customer service, and growing the supplier and customer base with a focus on increasing profits and margins. Training is conducted within a “mentorship” framework necessitating a high degree of daily interaction with other team members.

What You'll Do

• Obtain market knowledge and insight through continuous communication with product suppliers, customers, and transportation vendors
• Develop and enhance customer and supplier relationships by providing superior communication and timely follow-through
• Support department by reporting to business leaders in regular cadence on market information, opportunities, wins, and losses
• Monitor and own all aspects of the transaction. Purchase, sale, shipment, post-sale, and post-shipment follow-up, including resulting profit and loss
• Provide backup for other team members as required
• Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with cash commodity merchandising principles; crush margins, basis trading, carrying charges, spot vs. forward contracts, delivery differentials, etc. preferred
• Ability to learn, prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced changing environment required
• Possess interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong working relationships with customers and suppliers.
• Must be organized and detail-focused, possessing a continuous improvement mindset
• Possess entrepreneurial spirit with a self-starter attitude
• 1+ years of commodity merchandising, dairy, grain, or similar commercial experience preferred
• Must be a financially motivated individual
